Governing Documents

Judicial Council Opinions
Pursuant to Article XII, Section 1(a), and Article XII, Section 13(a) of the Constitution, the Judicial Council may issue opinions to settle interpretive questions left unresolved in Student Union enactments, including the Constitution, Bylaws, or Statutes; and may further hear cases to determine the constitutionality of enactments such as those in the bylaws or statutes.
The Opinions of the Judicial Council represent opinions released or announced in cases in which the Judicial Council has fully heard any such case, usually including oral argument. Each opinion sets out the Council's judgment and its reasoning and may include the majority or principal opinion as well as any concurring or dissenting opinions. The decisions outlined in these opinions are binding unless reversed by a subsequent opinion of the Council, or rendered moot by an amendment passed in the Student Senate.
The Judicial Council may also resolve cases in per curiam opinions, which do not identify the author; or may address cases summarily, often without oral argument.
