2018-2019 Term

President: Shady Girgis, '20

Shady Girgis served as the Judicial Council President from April 1, 2018, to April 1, 2019. As President, he nominated and presided over Parliamentarian Halena Hadi, Vice President of Elections Ellen Pil, and Vice President of Peer Advocacy Will Huffman. While a Notre Dame undergraduate, Shady resided in St. Edward's Hall and majored in Psycology and Business Analytics.

Before assuming his role as Judicial Council President, Shady served as the Judicial Council Vice President of Elections for the 2017-2018 term, and the St. Edward's Hall First Year Class Council Representative for the 2016-2017 term. He was nominated to serve as Judicial Council President by Matthew Ross—his predecessor and the 2017-2018 Judicial Council President—and was confirmed by the Student Senate. As President, Shady continued important work of constitutional upkeep and evaluation, while also supervising the administration of all Student Union elecions.  

On March 31, 2020, Shady successfully nominated Halena Hadi as his successor. In recognition and appreciation of "his dedication and contribution to the University of Notre Dame du Lac," the Student Senate granted Shady the title of Judicial Council President Emeritus on April 29, 2019. Shady is remembered for ushering the Student Union through another smooth electoral cycle and continuing processes of constitutional evaluation and improvement.

Today, Shady is an Area Sales Manager at Lumenis.

Parliamentarian: Halena Hadi, '21

On April 4, 2018, Shady Girgis successfully nominated Halena Hadi to serve as the Student Union Parliamentarian. Halena served as Parliamentarian between April 4, 2018 to April 1, 2019. As Parliamentarian, Halena worked to assist in clarifying constitutional and to ensure proper respect for parliamentary proceedure, laying the foundation for much of the transformative work she would eventually pursue as Judicial Council President. While a Notre Dame undergraduate, Halena resided in Dunne Hall and majored in Economics and ACMS.

On January 21, 2021, Halena was nominated to the role of 2019-2020 Judicial Council President by Shady Girgis and confirmed by a vote of the Senate. She was additionally granted the title of Judicial Council President Emeritus on April 15, 2021, and was the 2020 recipient of the prestigious Michael J Palumbo Award.  

Today, Halena is a Structured Funding Trading Associate at the Bank of America.
